Perfume #1!!!!

Perfume's latest album 'Game' became #1 on Oricon Daily charts today. It is the first in 7 years after 'Best Morning Musume' in 2001 from Morning Musume that the music performed by under 20 year-old girl group comes #1 on Oricon.

If we exclude best album, it is 9 years after 'Carry on my way' from SPEED in 1999. Even Morning Musume couldn't surpass SPEED regarding regular album (Even '3rd Love Paradise' including double million hit, 'Love Machine' couldn't become #1). But Perfume did.

Now, I'd like to declare, the or declining Hello!Project reign, or the Idol Ice Age, ends here, and Perfume reign starts here.

---
This change of regime is a good news for me in two points.

First, It was the quality of music that changed the world, as I'd been waiting for over 5 years . Not with the power of otakus who would purchase 10 copies of albums regardless of the quality of the music, but with the power of music lovers, who thought Perfume's music is unique, and interested in their music, Perfume became #1.

Objectively, I think members of Perfume are not so extraordinarily attractive. I think 10% of Japanese women are prettier than member of Perfume. Recently, some evil fans who envy Perfume's popularity call a-chan gorilla, but certainly, if I were a classmate of a-chan at elementary school, I may nickname her as such and will make her cry. ( I may regret myself who neglect her after she becomes national idol and gets sophisticated beauty later, though.)

Objectively again, some members of Morning Musume or AKB48 or Idoling or ℃-ute , or gravure idols must be more beautiful and sexier than than them, and they must belong to 5% of Japanese prettiest women.
(this graph will help your understanding.)

But the women simply prettier than Perfume members couldn't become better than Perfume as musician. That's a good news.

Second , somehow, it seems I could find a good musician who can become popular when it was not so popular. When I was very into a group called Bon-Bon Blanco or Paradise something, seeing their result of sales which doesn't go better than I'd bragged, I thought my musical sense is a kind of distorted, and I was just liking a creepy music, with a creepy sense. ( I admit I am the person who loves TOO characteristic music, though.)

But now, one of the groups I rated 'good' became national and representative JPOP idol in this country today. Now I regained my confidence, and I'd like to introduce if I could find some music I thought good on this blog.

congratulations!! it's always nice for your confidence in music to be reinforced through successes of sales. lately i've been feeling crappy too with Lead crappy sales, so i've been turning to mainstream music.

anyways im curious to know how this album was promoted? i've learned to believe promotion plays a key role in terms of music sales in Japan.

nakata yasutaka!
I'm so happy for Perfume, and perhaps moreso for Nakata Yasutaka. Now I'm waiting for him to take over Japan with electropop!

I understand what you mean but crappy sales/low popularity shouldn't detract a person from enjoying an artiste, rather it just suggests that the world is missing out on something good lol. I love Shiori Takei and Aiko Kitahara's music but they will never ever make it big, of course I'm not pleased with that but I don't think any less of their music.

Incidentally, liking an unpopular idol actually helped me! When I was in Japan in February, I attended my No.1 idol Meguru Ishii's event and gave her some gifts and a fan letter, and she actually sent me a handwritten letter from Japan after I returned home! I don't think too many popular idols will do this kind of thing...

One of the promotional activities I thought interesting most was that they held a contest of fan-made promotional video. It seems some foreign musicians have already done, but I think it was the first in Japan.

Like this, they are very good at making the most of the Internt, or persons who depend on the Internet. Of course, some conventional media also helped them, but apparently, it was the Internet who made the starter, and it's the main factor.

I think he has already does. Mr Nakata is now becoming the most famous music producer of all genres....

That's so nice! It must be very rare that some idols write back to you. Only the one I got was an e-mail from a girl from Paradise something, but certainly, it was the one from an unpopular group lol.

I live in the USA, and whenever we have Japanese exchange students at college we talk about music, and none of them have heard of capsule or any of the artists Nakata regularly produces. Of course they know Suzuki Ami and occasionally Kayo Aiko, but for the most part they just seem to listen to Western music or whatever charts high enough on the Oricon. It's sad, really. =/

Young people, especially the one who studies abroad, doesn't listen JPOP so often, because that kind of persons thinks JPOP dasai , and jumps up to Western music, and culture.
It'll take a decade to rediscover the charm of JPOP. So, talk with them 10 years later, after they return to JAPAN lol.

Seriously, the reason I quated Nakata as Most famous Japanese music producer is, there are no young famous music producers recently.

In early 90s, there were famous producers. Komuro Tetsuya, Kobayashi Takeshi, Izichi Hiromasa... and of course, Tsunku. However, after avex becomes influencial in 00s, the producer's existence disappeared again. (For example, who can remember the peson who produces Hamasaki or Koda's music?)

Nakata is a producer who became famous popular as a producer, after 10 years. At this point, his name is just known by some music lovers, but I bet his name will be recognized by many, and you can talk about him with your friends soon.

It's true, isn't it? I remember watching the drama "Kamisama mou sukoshi dake," in which Fukada Kyoko played a girl in love with a music producer that the entire nation was crazy for. I thought it was so silly to be in love with a producer rather than an artist...

And then a couple years later I fell in love with Nakata. *laugh*

The only thing I know about Ayu's music is that HAL occasionally produces it (but not too often lately), but that's only because I really liked their project as a musical group with HALNA.

I hope that everyone knows Nakata's name in the future (^^)

^The drama 'Kamisawa~' was made when 'the music producer boom' occurred (After Komuro's appearance), so, 'music producer' was fashionable occupation at that time.

The only producer for Ayu or Koda's work I know and I can approve is DAISUKE IMAI.He is god! I may introduce some works from him later in this blog lol.
