First, the influence from some anime shows.

As far as I can remember, both the songs from L'Arc and Porno were used as the theme of the Full Metal Alchemist few years ago. The junior highs school students who used to love this anime show were interested in these groups – that makes sense.

Second, recent high school students are becoming conservative.

Speaking of Japanese high school students, they used to be famous for their extreme and provocative short skirts which were introduced even in some American movies like 'Babylon' or 'the Grudge 2”. However, recent research shows the length of their skirts are getting longer, especially in Tokyo.

In fact, according to my personal scientific observation held at Shibuya and Ikebukuro few days back, there were only 2% of young girls who put on short skirts or short pants. Even when they put on short skirts, they also put on long pants under it. I was very sad.

Generally speaking, conservative people need an authority. Just like some conservative rock fans still adhere to rock music in the 60's or 70's, just like some conservative hip-hop fans who love old-school never admire new-school, for these young high school students, these old bands may look like the authorities they have to admire.

Anyway, including the expanding area of their skirts, the ecology of joshi-kouseis became a mystery to me again. I thought I was understanding them more than average men of my age, but it seems I was not. To reveal the hidden part of Joshi-kousei, I wish true scientific survey, not the one from Oricon, will be held by other media soon.
