Most Irritating JPOP Star of All Time
According to a survey from U.K. Music website, Musicmagpie.com, ex-Beatles member, Sir Paul MacCartney was named the most irritating music star of all time.

No matter how the result irritates you, It's a good survey, I think. In Japan, Oricon or some magazines sometimes have this kind of poll, but almost all of them are just tied up with talento agencies in order to to cast a good image on the music stars or actors/actresses. For example, 'Which talento do you want to spent Golden Week together?' 'Which talento can become your best boss?' ... and so on. And sometimes the result is controlled to promote the star . Oricon never announces the number of votes polled.
Sometimes this poll is held to speak ill of people (For example, the talent whom you don't like have sex with) , but to make the result moderate, Japanese people unsually answer the comedian's name instead of hopeful musicians or actors. It's the way of surveying in the country of Wa (harmony.)
On the other hand, I think this survey from U.K. is the genuine one. Of course, I respect Beatles and Sir MacCartney as a founder of pop music, but I also agree he is annoying, especially when he comes to the politics. And the people listed in the Top10 looks annoying for some people.

On terms of pop artists I dislike... I really dislike Yui Sakakibara (榊原ゆい). See, my friend tried to get me to like her and I just could not stand her voice. But then again, there's rumours that she sleeps with producers or something.
I also dislike MEG, Nakata Yasutaka's new pop star person. She's really annoying too because her attitude irks me slightly. The only reason I even give her a listen is because Nakata is producing her.
Actually, if we're talking about not exclusively pop, I dislike nearly all visual-kei bands. They're not really bands at all, just boys crossdressing.

as ex-JE fans it's really annoying to see randomjjrmembers who can't sing (or act) to save their lives get (Tokyo Dome) debut and get lead role in dramas while some real talented members (Like MA or Tomabeforehanakimi or Kazama Shunsuke) never get the chance.

I don't find most of the Jpop people irritating but there are certainly lots of "comedians" that are! i don't know why but it seems that many of them think that raising their voice and shouting some nonsense at their co-hosts/guests can substitute for some proper jokes...
Montevi, Tsunku got married a year or two ago, and his wife has just given birth to twins, a boy and a girl. So if he's gay he's very secretive about it!
I would have to vote SMAP as my #1 most irritating. All you ever see/hear is SMAP! Japan is constantly "SMAP SMAP SMAP by the way SMAP"!!! .

Actually, Terukado is not irritating to me, because when I don't like to listen to his music, I can simply skip. It's sure if I were still an idol otaku, I would have chosen Harenchi Punch for #6 irritating Japanese pop artist. I don't mean to be mean to them, but her too unnatural way used to be annoying a bit to me.
And I agree v-kei bands are irritating. I may post another entry to insult them later lol.

I laughed at Heigay Jump lol. I don't watch , but I heard the acting of Takagi-kun from heigay was awful in Gokusen. It's sure some Johny's groups will be in Top 10 irritating JPOP star, but I'm afraid the result will be arranged to flatter to Johny's entertainment then.
And I think Idoling is originally such a group, so bounding boobs must be the real intention of the manager. I haven't watched it, cause I thought it isn't music, but I'd like to watch the PV later, for my scientific research, later. Thanks.

Strangely, the more I saw him with sexy and beautiful woman in PV, the more I think he is gay. Tsunku is now a dad of two babies, so I don't think he is not gay anymore, though.
And I agree comedians are more irritating. Or I have to say, 90% of recent commedians are always irritating to me, and never make me laugh.

I agree SMAP reign is too long. But I don't think we can become happier even if SMAP disappears. Just NEWS or Heigay Jump! substitutes for them.

It's not JE's fault, but the girls who watch the drama for them. The audience rating certainly shoots up when Johny's boys star the drama. Even without the connection of Kimutaku or SMAP, Johny's boys can bring a lot of people to the show. It's wise choice that you don't watch.
I wish Johny's fans would become more objectively on acting, just like some fans of female idols criticizes the quality of the music and skip it when the song is crap.
Tsunku's royalties are coming from his writing and producing the songs, not from singing backing vocals on them (and he doesn't even do them a lot of the time, as my CD liner notes will attest).
I checked the database of JASRAC, and certainly, Tsunku's name is not nominated in 'artist' section. So, you may be right. But it's irritating for me to hear his voice, anyway lol.
I don't know what the Japanese call it, but foreign fans sometimes call the backing voice "Tsunku's ghost". We just blame him for the male voice even when it isn't him (we blame most things on him lol)
In the documentary show (not Asayan) I watched 7 years back, Tsunku was singing the chorus of 'the Peace' or something, so I think some of them are not ghosts but actually his voice.

Hanakimi had higher rating than any JE dramas lately (except TakuKimu's) and it has 1 (not-debuted) JE boy only.

I think if we are considering most irritating Jpop star of ALL TIME, as in the original title - it would have to be Seiko - she won so almost all "most irritating" contents back in her day. Of course, as you point out, Mr. Gaijin, a singer has to be popular to win these contests, not all popular singers are irritating. Akina never seemed to even make the top 10 those contests. On the other hand, sometime being irritating can also lead to popularity - it seems Seiko's post-80's career has been sustained by her being as irritating as possible.
You make a good point that omedians are consistently more irritating that singers. But the most irritating of all are comedians who try to be Jpop singers, and then commit the crime of having big hits. This is even more irritating than comedian-governors. How can you explain Wow War Tonight or Black Biscuits to any outsider without feeling embarassed?

hmm... who is irritating... naturally as a straight man in his 20s i can say i can't stand stuff from JE. old SMAP songs are fun to karaoke with friends, but that's about it.
aside from that though, utada hikaru really annoys me. i don't really concentrate on her music, but what i have heard sounds all the same to me, boring R&B with english throw in to impress some people. (and american otaku love her because she did video game music, so that's annoying too.)
